About

Hey hi merry ho. I'm Hillary Teo. Spent 10 years in a Singaporean Girls’ School known for rigorous daily examination systems and results-oriented, miracle-working and grade A teaching staff. Needless to say, cortisol levels were high then but school remained a highly sheltered cynosure, literally and figuratively. Now, I’ve been thrust back to society at large in a world filled with mystery, intrigue, flux and, gulp, confounding men. Besides musing, I love anything whimsical and adore lounge (or ‘elevator’, call-it-what-you-like) music.

“Writing is a form of therapy. Sometimes I wonder how all those who do not write, compose or paint can manage to escape the madness, the melancholia, the panic fear which is inherent in the human situation.”
— Graham Greene

Back at the convent, I usually wrote poetry or the fantasy/discursive essays. Sometimes I married the latter and its previous. Whenever I did that, Mrs Sng would heap scorn and I'd try to weasel out of a relentless berate with, "I'm sorry, I'll do better, I'll stick to descriptive!" promises. And what happened? I was a repeat offender with a penchant for discursive and fantasy writing. So hi, I'm Hillary. If anyone is au courant with the depth of my desires to satiate my appetite for life and the arts, he wouldn’t be surprised to discover this tumblr.

"To laugh often and much; to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and to endure the betrayal of false friends. To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded."
